How to use FolderHeat

FolderHeat is intentionally simple: choose a folder, inspect where the bytes are going, then decide what deserves your attention.

1. Choose a folder

The browser will ask you to pick a folder. FolderHeat can only see the files you explicitly select. It cannot silently scan the rest of your computer.

2. Read the four headline numbers

Total size is the combined byte size reported by the selected files. File and folder counts describe the selected tree, while Largest file immediately exposes a common storage culprit.

3. Use the treemap

Each rectangle is proportional to the size of a child folder or file. Click a folder rectangle to drill down. Use Up or Root to move back.

4. Check the tables

Largest folders helps identify heavy branches. Largest files is useful for giant videos, archives, installers, exports, or forgotten backups. The extension breakdown shows which file formats dominate.

5. Export before cleaning

Folder CSV is a compact size inventory. File CSV is a detailed list. JSON is useful when you want to inspect or process the report elsewhere.
